What personal information we collect, why we collect it, and your rights.
Run4Hope is the responsible party for the personal information described here, under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Our information officer is [name], reachable at info@run4hope.co.za.
When you register: your first and last name, email address, a phone number for the individual or group contact, the event you are entering, and the reason you give for running. For groups, each runner's name and email address.
When you donate: your name, the amount, an optional reason, and whether you want to appear on the donor wall.
When you sign the waiver: your drawn signature, the date and time, the IP address and device details used to sign, and the version of the waiver you accepted. A signed PDF copy is stored securely and emailed to you and to us.
Payments are handled by PayFast. We receive a payment reference, the amount and the payer's email address from PayFast. We never see or store card details.
To register you for the event, confirm your payment, email you your confirmation and waiver, run the event safely, and report on money raised. We only send you other updates if you ask for them.
We use trusted service providers to run the website: PayFast (payments), Supabase (database), Resend (email) and Vercel. Some of them store data outside South Africa. We choose providers with appropriate security and only share what they need.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with charities or sponsors unless you agree.
If you tick the box, your name and donation amount are shown publicly. If you do not tick it, they are not shown. The reason you give for donating is never shown publicly.
We keep registration and waiver records for 2 years after the event, in case of safety or insurance questions, then delete or anonymise them. Payment records are kept for as long as the law requires.
Access to our database is restricted, and information is sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the Information Regulator if there is a breach that affects you.
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing support@run4hope.co.za. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Our run is for people aged 18 and over as well as under 18s with the consent of their parents/guardians.
We may update this policy. The latest version is always on this page.
